Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before heading to the Royal Botanical Garden in Peradeniya. Covering 147 acres, the garden was first established in 1374 for the Kings of Gampola and Kandy. With over 5,000 species of trees, plants, and creepers, including rare and endemic flora and specimens from tropical regions around the world, visitors often enjoy visiting the Spice Garden and Orchid House. The gardens feature five Palm Avenues, including the earliest and tallest (Royal Palm Avenue) planted in 1905 and the striking Double Coconuts from the Seashells Island, which features the largest seed of all plants in the world. After the garden visit, receive a briefing on the sacred city of Kandy before embarking on a city tour. As a hill capital, Kandy is an example of the influence of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, with temple shrines and monasteries preserving Buddhist traditions throughout the city. The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, considered Sri Lanka’s most prized possession, has been revered since the 4th century A.D. Today, the city also boasts the island of "Kiri Samudraya" at the center of the lake, once used as a summer residence by kings and now serving as a cultural center for Buddhism, arts, crafts, dance, music, and culture. Daily cultural performances can be seen throughout the city. After the city tour, relax at the hotel for the remainder of the day and enjoy an overnight stay in Kandy.
